Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital welcomes music therapy students to apply for a full-time internship. Our comprehensive music therapy program offers opportunities for interns to observe, co-lead and lead music therapy sessions for infants, children, preteens, teens and young adults in a variety of settings, including:

  • Pediatric cardiovascular and neonatal intensive care
  • Pediatric and neonatal progressive care
  • Medical and surgical care
  • Outpatient infusion and dialysis
  • Pediatric rehabilitation
  • Behavioral health observation related to Adverse Childhood Experiences
  • Hematology and oncology (observation only due to clinical coverage)

From organ transplants to neonatal care, Levine Children's Hospital leads the region in offering more than 30 specialized pediatric services. As an intern, you’ll work within our department and partner with other disciplines to serve patients and families receiving medical services and end-of-life care.

How do I qualify?

To qualify for the music therapy internship, applicants must:

We have temporarily suspended our music therapy internship. Additional information regarding a resumption of application consideration will be posted as soon as possible.

How do I apply?

Follow the instructions below for sending required documents, recordings and professional references.

Documents (Required) 

In one envelope, include:

  • Music Therapy Internship Application
  • Your resume, including all practicum/clinical placements
  • All official transcripts
  • A letter from the university program director stating proof of required music therapy clinical hours and date of eligibility for internship
  • An example of your work (e.g. research paper, case study narrative, assessment/plan)

Recordings (Required)

You must also submit a minimum of three videos of performed songs. Email your videos or sound recordings to MusicTherapy.LevineChildrens@AtriumHealth.org. Please don't include client- or patient-sensitive images.

Each song performed must be in a different style/genre using at least three chords. Your performance should feature:

  • Two songs with guitar and voice
  • One song with piano and voice

References (Required)

Please provide up to three professional references in one of the following ways:

  • In a sealed envelope included with the rest of the application materials
  • In a sealed envelope mailed separately from the rest of the application materials
  • Email format directly from reference source
