The Atrium Health Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship in Hospital Medicine provides focused education for the nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the role of a hospitalist. Hospital medicine is a rapidly growing field that provides excellent care to increasingly complex patients. Hospitalists pride themselves on delivering the most efficient healthcare in the hospital setting. As general internal medicine practitioners, APP fellows will be exposed to the wide scope of medical issues admitted to the hospital. Instruction will be via dedicated faculty-provided didactics, case presentations and one-on-one preceptorships with attending physicians and APPs trained in hospital medicine at Charlotte Metro Facility sites, along with regional and rural sites for the greatest scope of experience.

By completing the fellowship, the learner will develop critical thinking, diagnostic skills and experience in managing complex medical patients. The fellow will cultivate their leadership skills to provide safe, efficient, cost-effective and specialized care to hospitalized adult acute care patients. The learned will also be educated on the practice of observation medicine, virtual care and rehabilitation medicine.
