Biography

“I do my job to help improve the well-being of people of all ages affected by skin diseases. Skin changes can be a window into the patient's general health, and I enjoy doing my part to recognize and treat these skin changes that may signal internal systemic diseases and even cancer.”

Dr. James is board certified in dermatology. He has clinical interests in acne, actinic keratoses (dry, scaly precancerous lesions on skin), autoimmune skin diseases, eczema, folliculitis, fungal infections, hair loss and lichen planus (an inflammatory condition causing small purple bumps).

Additionally, he treats melasma, nail disorders, psoriasis, rosacea, urticaria (hives), vitiligo (a disease that causes the loss of skin color) and warts.

Dr. James is also skilled in surgical dermatology, including treatment of melanoma, basal cell carcinomas, skin cancers, squamous cell carcinomas, dysplastic nevi (irregular moles), cysts and other malignant skin lesions.

Dr. James is the educational liaison for Pediatric Dermatology at Atrium Health Dermatology SouthPark.

He chose dermatology because it encompasses aspects of both medicine and surgery. He enjoys seeing a wide variety of patients of all ages and treating a multitude of conditions, ranging from acne and eczema to autoimmune diseases and skin cancers.

Dr. James is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He has contributed several articles to scientific journals and medical textbooks.

Dr. James received his bachelor’s degree and his medical degree with distinction at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed residency at UNC Medical Center.

When he’s not working, he enjoys traveling, hiking, exercising, socializing with friends and spending time with his wife, dog and cat. He also enjoys learning about the latest developments in medical and surgical dermatology.
