Dellyse Bright, MD

Welcome to Carolinas HealthCare System!

It is my pleasure to introduce you to our Family Medicine Residency program. We are a very well-established program, dating back to the early 1970s when family medicine first became a specialty, and are fully-accredited by the ACGME. While there are many excellent residency programs in our state and region, what distinguishes Carolinas Medical Center is that we offer the best of both worlds: a strong academic environment in a thriving community-based program. Additionally, with the location of our inpatient service at CMC-Mercy and CHS-Union, residents experience the benefits of both academic and community-based settings. Our faculty is outstanding and very approachable, with expertise that runs the full scope of family medicine. Our residents and faculty enjoy supportive, collegial relationships with our peers in other specialties both in the hospital and beyond. Please take time to explore our website and learn more about our program and community. There are a few initiatives that I would like to highlight for you:

  • Beginning in academic year 2016-2017, our program has expanded with the addition of the CHS-Union Family Medicine Residency program.
  • We implemented an innovative Integrative Medicine Curriculum. Carolinas Medical Center was one of only eight initial pilot programs in the country offering this web-based curriculum which spans the three years of residency. The Integrative Medicine Curriculum covers everything from self-care and wellness, to botanicals and CAM (complementary and alternative medicine) treatment modalities, with an emphasis on integrating it all with traditional medical therapies.
  • We are actively involved in Continuous Quality Improvement and all of our family medicine centers have received recognition from the NCQA (National Committee on Quality Assurance) for Diabetes Care and the Medical Home (which relates to patient-centeredness and access to care). All of our residents receive experience in population-based disease management, the team-based approach to patient care, and how to maximize outcomes for their patients.
  • The Department of Family Medicine was selected as a Lean Transformation Pilot Site within Carolinas HealthCare System. The team is engaged daily in continuously improving our internal processes as well as redefining health care in a rapidly changing family medicine environment. Other areas of strength our program offers include procedural training, evidence-based medicine, community medicine, geriatrics, sports medicine, and pediatric/adolescent medicine.

I would encourage you to contact our residents to get a feel for what it is like to work and live in the Charlotte and Monroe areas. On this site, you will find information on our faculty, curriculum, resident benefits. Please contact us if you have any questions about the program or the application process.

Thank you again for your interest in our program and best wishes to you as you strive to make this important decision and transition into the next phase of your professional life. I hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Dellyse Bright, MD
