Breastfeeding Support

Carolinas HealthCare System and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend breastfeeding when possible and support mothers who choose to breastfeed.

When you are lactating (producing breast milk), you may have questions about breast care, producing enough or too much milk, or just need help in getting started. Internationally board-certified lactation consultants will help you while you are in the hospital. Our lactation centers offer services including:

  • In-hospital visits
  • Outpatient consultations
  • New mom support groups
  • Breastfeeding and back-to-work classes
  • Breast pump sales and rentals

To schedule an appointment or for general questions, please call one of our lactation centers.

Patient and Visitor Photography Guidelines

Carolinas HealthCare System wants families to have a wonderful birth experience. We know you’ll want to capture those first special moments with your new baby in pictures or video. For the safety and security of our mothers, babies, staff and physicians, we ask that you please follow these guidelines:

During Labor and Delivery

  • You’re welcome to take photographs in your labor and delivery room before baby’s birth and after baby has been safely welcomed into mother’s arms.  Recording equipment cannot be used during delivery so the healthcare team can focus solely on mom’s and baby’s needs.

  • To ensure safe patient care, videos and live-streaming are not allowed in the delivery room.

  • Please ask your doctor about his or her preferences regarding photography.

After Delivery

  • Photography and video recording are allowed in your private room. To help our team provide the best care to mom and baby, please do not take pictures or videos during medical treatments or procedures.

  • The care and comfort of our babies and families are our top priority. We also care about patient and staff privacy. Please ask permission before including staff or other patients in photos or videos.

High-Risk Maternity Care

High-risk pregnancy means you will require closer medical attention during your prenatal care. Examples of high-risk pregnancies include having a medical condition like diabetes or cancer, being pregnant with more than one baby, or if your baby has a genetic condition such as Down syndrome.

Carolinas HealthCare System has experts to help guide you through any problems that may occur during your pregnancy and delivery. And, we are one of the few fetal care programs in the region, meaning our doctors can perform surgery while your baby is in the womb.
