Behavioral Health Treatment Philosophy

We believe people seeking help for mental illness or substance use disorders should feel empowered and supported – not ashamed or embarrassed.

With a specific focus on integrating behavioral health into primary care, Carolinas HealthCare System’s behavioral health team is creating a forward-thinking approach to providing care to people dealing with mental health issues.

We choose to focus our efforts on:

  • Screening for and detecting mental illness early by working with primary care doctors
  • Treating mental illness in its early stage
  • Educating our communities about mental illness and substance use disorders

Brain Stimulation Services - Medications and counseling alone aren’t always enough to treat depression symptoms. When other treatments for depression haven’t worked well, brain stimulation services like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and modern-day electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) can be effective. Find out more about these services and if they might be right for you.

Behavioral Health Services for Children and Teens

Young people with behavioral or emotional problems often struggle at home and in school. Problems making friends, succeeding in school and participating in extra-curricular activities can become serious issues for children and teens. Our behavioral health specialists can help.

At Carolinas HealthCare System, we support the growth of healthy communities. We offer a course called Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). This is an important tool to educate our community on how to reach out and help those around you who may be struggling with mental illness or substance abuse.
