“It’s very rewarding to help women through their family planning decisions, prenatal care and delivery of their new babies. I enjoy getting to know my patients and their families, and with 4 children of our own, it’s fun to go through a similar time in life as many of my patients.”
Dr. Counihan is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN). He specializes in high-risk obstetrics, gynecologic surgeries and gynecologic problems.
He is the medical director of the Atrium Health Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship in Women's Health.
Dr. Counihan received his medical degree at Florida State University and completed a residency at Atrium Health Carolinas HealthCare System.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending most of his time with his wife and 4 children. Coincidentally, all his children were born at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. He also enjoys working out and traveling to the beach.
