At Carolinas HealthCare System, we believe the best way for us to provide continuous, exceptional care is to make sure our patients are inspired and informed. Carolinas HealthCare System Cleveland offers childbirth and child care classes to help you prepare for your baby’s arrival.

Maternity Tour

During this free tour, you will see all areas for labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care. We will give you information on our state-of-the-art maternity center and answer any questions you and your family may have.

Prepared Childbirth

These classes prepare parents for childbirth, both physically and mentally. Parents will also learn how to care for their newborns and keep them safe. The classes cover:

  • Signs of labor
  • Normal progress of labor and birth
  • Relaxation methods and breathing patterns
  • Pain management
  • Tour of the hospital
  • Basic newborn care

Breastfeeding Basics

This class prepares women for successful breastfeeding. Moms are encouraged to take this class before delivery and bring their support person with them. Lactation consultants will discuss:

  • How to start breastfeeding while in the hospital
  • Milk supply
  • Positioning and latching
  • What to expect in the early days and weeks

This class will teach you how to keep your new baby safe and healthy, including:

  • How to create a safe environment for your baby

Boot Camp for Expectant Dads

This program, for first-time fathers only, is taught by experienced dads. No moms allowed! New fathers will:

  • Interact with other new dads
  • Feel confident about bringing a new baby home
  • Learn about baby care and fatherhood
  • Learn the needs of new mothers and families

In this one-hour class, for children between the ages of three and 10, children will:

  • Discuss becoming a new sibling
