Radiation therapy is a safe and effective way to treat cancer. The radiation is delivered by a team of highly-trained medical professionals led by a board-certified radiation oncologist, and includes board-certified medical physicists, dosimetrists, licensed radiation therapists and radiation oncology nurses.

Tumor targeting, dose calculations and calibration of the linacs are all of fundamental importance in assuring safe treatment. A tumor can be targeted to a precision of less than 1 millimeter using the state-of-the-art linear accelerators at any of Levine Cancer Institute’s radiation therapy sites. This high degree of precision is possible with the help of new image-guided technologies, but they in turn require a rigorous quality assurance (QA) program—one that conforms to national accrediting standards.
