A home sleep study is a simplified version of an attended in-lab sleep study, which primarily focuses on nocturnal breathing. Home sleep studies are only used to diagnose, or rule-out, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
This test uses sensors that record information about your airflow, breathing effort, snoring, heart rate and oxygen levels throughout the night.
Home sleep studies are not for everyone, and not all insurance carriers will cover the cost of the study. A Carolinas Sleep Medicine doctor can make the determination, based on your specific situation, whether you should have your sleep test done in the sleep lab or at home.
