The second year of residency (PGY-2) is divided into: Obstetrics, Gynecology, Urogynecology, Gynecologic oncology, Night Float, Introduction to High Risk Obstetrics and Ambulatory Care.

Obstetrics

The PGY-2 resident has the primary responsibility for managing patients on labor and delivery. The resident will learn to treat a variety of problems related to labor and is the primary surgeon for Caesarean deliveries. Supervision is by upper level residents and faculty members. During the spring, there is an introduction to high risk obstetrics where the PGY-2 is introduced to the antepartum service led by the PGY-3

Staff Gynecology

Urogynecology

The purpose of this rotation is to introduce the second-year resident to evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of women with pelvic floor disorders. The residents are exposed to minimally invasive surgical approaches to treat prolapse and incontinence including laparoscopic, robotic, and vaginal surgery.

Gynecologic Oncology

This rotation exposes the resident to an in-depth experience in the management of gynecologic malignancies. Residents are exposed to all current diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in the treatment of gynecologic cancers, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Residents participate in surgical procedures as a first assistant with the GYN Oncology attending.

Ambulatory Care

Exposure to all aspects of caring for women in obstetrics and gynecology clinic forms the basis of this rotation. The resident will cover clinics serving patients with high risk pregnancies in addition to complicated gynecologic disease. The resident also receives first-hand experience with colposcopy and LEEP procedure in addition to routine obstetric and gynecologic visits.

Night Float

Night float consists on one resident from each year. The PGY-2 resident's primary role is labor management and ER consults/emergent GYN cases. Weekday night call is a rotation beginning at 5:30p.m. and ends at 7a.m., Sunday - Thursday nights. Each weekend is free until Sunday evening.

Continuity Clinics

The resident has their own continuity clinic and patients. Continuity clinics are half-day clinics during every rotation except OB Day and OB Nights.
