Applicant Criteria

Applications will be accepted only from participants in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). If you wish to apply to the department’s residency program tracks (Elizabeth (Traditional), Biddle Point (Urban Underserved) and Union (Community Apprenticeship), please indicate within ERAS what tracks you are interested in when you complete your application. Please note that you can apply to all three tracks or any combination that you prefer.  Also, be aware each track has its own NRMP ID number.

Invitations for personal interviews are based on review of the application materials requested. Interviews are scheduled on Mondays and Fridays from October through December. Applicants are given ample opportunities to discuss the program with the faculty and residents. Each applicant is formally interviewed by a resident, a faculty member, and the residency director. Ranking in the NRMP is made based on commitment to a career in family medicine, academic excellence, communication skills and other factors.

Guidelines for Personal Statement

Please answer the following questions within the text of your personal statement to help us know you and your special interest.

1. What led you to choose family medicine as a career and what valuable lesson have you learned through your experiences in family medicine to date?
2. What leadership roles and personal accomplishments have you achieved through the years?
3. What are your future goals in a career of family medicine?

Couples Match: If you are applying with another residency candidate in the couples match, please provide his or her name and medical specialty on your application.

Do you offer observerships or externships?      
No.

How do I apply to your program?  
We only accept applications through ERAS.

Will the committee members review each application downloaded from ERAS? 
Yes.

Are there minimum scores required for USMLE Step I and Step II? 
You can not have any failures of Step I, Step II or CK and CS. There is no minimum score.

How many letters of recommendation are required?
ERAS requires three letters of recommendation.

Should I have previous clinical experience in the United States? 
Yes. 

Is it required that I have graduated from medical school recently?  
Applicants must have graduated from medical school within two years of the start date of residency.

Does the program sponsor VISAS? 
We do not sponsor visas.

What is the deadline for applications?
