Welcome to Carolinas Rehabilitation! Interested in an all-around well-balanced PM&R program? Look no further! As demonstrated by the fact that our residents are hailing from all over the country, we have a phenomenal program here that provides comprehensive training in all areas of PM&R. Through our robust clinical curriculum, residents become masters of the fundamentals of PM&R, yet the curriculum also provides plenty of flexibility that encourages residents to explore any additional unique opportunities or subject matters. I personally have a strong interest in global health and developing rehabilitation services in underserved, underdeveloped areas internationally. Carolinas Rehabilitation not only gave me the freedom to further explore this interest, but fully encouraged me to do so, resulting in a month working at a rehabilitation hospital in Nepal. Furthermore, the recent partnerships with the Wake Forest Baptist Health and Advocate Health systems only further bolster the resources and reach of the program. On top of all that, the program highly values work-life balance, so the residents take full advantage of living in the great city of Charlotte—with easy access to all major sporting events, both the mountains and the beach, concerts, art events, countless restaurants and breweries (over 30 breweries in the city!). All in all, residents graduate confident in their clinical abilities and energized to take on the next stage of their careers.

PM&R Alumni Faculty Comments

Terrence Pugh, MD: “I have undergone a significant amount of personal and professional growth during my 3 years here as a resident at Carolinas Rehab, so I was very pleased when an opportunity presented itself to remain as faculty. I know that being a part of a great team of physicians, therapists, nurses and staff along with continued mentorship will only further advance my development as a physician. I look forward to continuing my career as an attending at Carolinas Rehabilitation.”

Matthew Shall, MD: "After completing my residency training in Charlotte, I was excited to return as a faculty member to work with a number of the fantastic physicians who mentored me through my training. Carolinas Rehabilitation is in the forefront of rehabilitation not only locally and regionally, but has a growing reputation throughout the United States. I am proud to say that I am part of such an exemplary institution."
