Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center

Carolinas Medical Center is the flagship facility of Atrium Health. As one of North Carolina's largest hospitals, CMC serves as the regional referral center for western North Carolina and northern South Carolina.

The hospital is one of only five facilities in North Carolina designated as an Academic Medical Center Teaching Hospital and a Level I trauma center. It operates a number of specialized centers and institutes, bringing together some of the finest medical personnel in the country to treat patients with specific diagnoses.

Atrium Health Mercy

Atrium Health Mercy, a Planetree Accredited Hospital, will soon become the headquarters for Atrium Health's Musculoskeletal Institute (MSKI). The facility will include the MSKI administrative suite as well as educational space for residents. Areas of significant investment include surgical care, patient facing facilities and infrastructure. The new facility will be complete in 2021. Atrium Health Mercy believes that to truly care for a person's well-being you must do more than treat symptoms. That's why they consider patients' emotional and spiritual well-being as they do the treatment of physical ailments.

An adult acute care facility with 185+ beds, Atrium Health Mercy provides a full-range of services. The emergency department has been recognized for service excellence by J.D. Power and Associates two years in a row. They also have many advanced specialties, such as the Bariatric Center, the Heart Center, the Foot and Ankle Institute, the Hip and Knee Center and the family medicine residency training program.

Levine Children's Hospital

Levine Children's Hospital, located on the campus of CMC, is the largest children's hospital between Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. The 240,000-foot hospital opened in 2007 and is home to the region's only dedicated children's emergency department operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Levine Children's has more board-certified physicians in more pediatric specialties than any other hospital in the region. With 234 beds, Levine Children's leads the region in specialty pediatric care, offering more than 30 specialized pediatric services including kidney, liver and heart transplants; cardiac and cancer care; neurosurgery; rehabilitation service; and the highest designated level of neonatal intensive care.

Myers Park Clinic

The Myers Park clinic houses the offices for all the resident clinics, not only for orthopaedic. The clinic helps provide care to those people in the county without insurance.

OrthoCarolina

OrthoCarolina is one of the largest, most comprehensive orthopaedic practices in the nation. OrthoCarolina was created by the 2005 merger of Miller Orthopaedic Clinic and Charlotte Orthopaedic Specialists. For more than 80 years, each practice provided high quality orthopaedic care to patients of the Charlotte, NC region.

Together as OrthoCarolina, they are able to combine their strengths to provide an even higher level of orthopaedic service and patient care. The highly trained physician staff of OrthoCarolina is comprised of orthopaedic surgeons, physiatrists and physician assistants. While the orthopaedic surgeons at OrthoCarolina are trained and experienced in all areas of orthopaedics, many have fellowship training in specialty areas such as foot and ankle, hand, hip and knee, pediatric orthopaedics, shoulder and elbow, spine, and sports medicine.

Carolinas Simulation Center

Opened in 2007 as a department of Carolinas College of Health Sciences, Carolinas Simulation Center is an American College of Surgeons accredited Level I Education Institute. This prestigious accreditation designates Carolinas Simulation Center as a provider of quality education and a partner in advancing patient safety through educational endeavors.

The Simulation Center is one of only 39 institutions worldwide to receive this accreditation. The center was established as a multidisciplinary simulation center to meet the training needs of Carolinas Medical Center and its related entities as well as healthcare providers and community groups from across the surrounding region.

The Simulation Center allows healthcare professionals at all levels the opportunity to use interactive, lifelike mannequins and other equipment to simulate procedures and situations in a safe learning environment. One of the center's priorities is educational research for continuous improvement of educational methods. Faculty can provide structured, risk-free, hands-on educational experiences for medical and surgical residents, nursing and CRNA students, AHEC, and other allied health personnel. Emphasis is given to curriculum development and implementation on a variety of simulators.

Using our state-of-the-art simulation equipment, healthcare professionals are able to learn proper techniques and improve their decision-making skills through an interactive environment.

Specifically, the orthopaedic residency has developed a year-long curriculum, which involves teaching basic casting/splinting techniques, multiple cadaver labs, basic arthroscopy on models and fracture fixation with the use of sawbones.
