Subspecialty Consults

Our categorical residents complete a month-long rotation in each of the subspecialty consult months listed below. Each of these rotations combines a mix of inpatient and outpatient exposure to that particular specialty. In most cases, the consult blocks offer clinical and educational duties Monday-Friday with no overnight or weekend responsibilities. All categorical and preliminary interns can indicate which subspecialty consult blocks they prefer to complete during their PGY-1 year.

Conversely, residents interested in a hospitalist career may choose to spend time on a palliative care rotation, ultrasound and/or complete a hospitalist elective.

Our residents entering fellowships may choose anything from endoscopy (for those considering GI) to a month in the cardiac catheterization or echocardiography labs (for those considering cardiology). In addition, there are opportunities to rotate with private practitioners in those specialties.

Both preliminary and categorical residents may choose from any of the elective options listed above. The diverse options and our scheduling flexibility are part of tailoring your residency experience to your individual needs.
