A family’s pediatric provider plays an integral role in the development of the healthy, happy child through birth, childhood and adolescence. The Advanced Clinical Practitioner Pediatric Medicine Fellowship program is designed to equip nurse practitioners and physician assistants with enhanced skills to provide a broad range of primary healthcare services to patients through the developmental years.

The team of more than 150 pediatric providers at Carolinas HealthCare System offers personalized treatment at approximately 30 locations in the Charlotte, NC and surrounding region and delivers the highest quality care and excellent service to patients and their families through a comprehensive and compassionate team-based approach.

Collaboration with Pediatric Medicine Practices

The Center for Advanced Practice, in collaboration with a number of pediatric medicine practices across the System, offers fellows cutting-edge clinical experiences such as:

  • Pediatric and adolescent medicine
  • Newborn care
  • Physicals
  • Immunizations
  • Prevention and management of chronic illnesses
  • Minor procedures and treatment
  • Developmental screenings; many other routine services

These practice-based clinical experiences provide the fellow with guided hands-on patient care, which in turn accommodates for a smoother transition to practice and established skills inventory, team-based care approach, procedures and personnel, as well as a network of referral sources.

Comprehensive Post-Graduate Approach

The pediatric medicine fellowship is a 12-month program created to increase proficiencies in the delivery of pediatric healthcare services through a three week introductory core curriculum, weekly didactic education, direct patient care, specialty rotations, simulation training, journal club, case presentations, and team learning discussions. The specialized curriculum addresses an evolving healthcare system and is integrated with a behavioral health model to support expertise in behavioral health diagnoses commonly encountered in outpatient clinics.
