  1. Ali Winter Gies, MLS(ASCP)
    Education Coordinator – Phlebotomy

    Ali’s biggest accomplishment in 2022, was starting her master’s degree in higher education. She was also a faculty fellow and helped the college move forward in the development of Interprofessional Education (IPE collegewide). Specifically, she oversees faculty and student development opportunities. Ali currently serves as the chair of the college’s Academic, Progression, and Graduation committee.

  2. Rodney Duke, MSN, CPN, RN
    Faculty - Associate Degree Nursing

    Rodney Duke completed the Legal Nurse Consultant Course in November 2022. He and his husband, Keith, also bought an RV and have already taken multiple excursions with many more planned in the not-too-distant future!

  3. ADN Faculty Present at National Conference

    Ali’s biggest accomplishment in 2022, was starting her master’s degree in higher education.   4. Tracy Hayes, MSN RN CPN

    Tracy Hayes was the 2022 Outstanding Educator for Carolinas College of Health Sciences.

  5. Sherena Samuel, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, CNE
    Faculty - Associate Degree Nursing 

    In 2022, Dr. Sherena Samuel participated in a research study and manuscript development. She also completed the Nurse Educator Certificate Program at UNC Charlotte.

  6. Carol Daley Cook, MSN, RN, CHPN
    Faculty – Associate Degree Nursing

    Carol made significant headway on her DNP and will be graduating in May 2023 from Garner-Webb University!

  7. Annette Fraley MSN RN NE-BC
    Faculty – RN-BSN

    Annette started a DNP program this past year at Lenoir-Rhyne University and received the Cato Healthcare Excellence Award.

  8. Tracy Walling, BS, HT, HTL (ASCP) cm
    Coordinator – Histotechnology Program

    2022 was a challenging time for Tracy Walling. She had a stroke and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Although these challenges made the holidays interesting, Tracy has fully recovered and is back teaching at Carolinas College!

  9. Diahanne Holandez, MSN, RN
    Faculty - Associate Degree Nursing

    Diahanne obtained her Online Teaching Certification from the Online Learning Consortium.

  10. Tonya May, MSN, RN
    Faculty - Nurse Aide 

    Tonya obtained her post MSN-Nursing Administration Certificate in May 2022. She also started the DNP Leadership program in August 2022 at Gardner-Webb University. 

  11. McKenzie Masters, MSN, RN-BC  
    Faculty - Associate Degree Nursing 

    McKenzie stated her big accomplishment for 2022 was completing her MSN in Nursing Education and obtaining a full-time faculty position in NUR 110. In addition, she worked with Savannah Thompson to re-establish the Student Nurses Association at Carolinas College. 

  12. Leslie Beth (L.B.) Sossoman, DNP, MSN, ACNP-BC, CV-BC, CPHQ 
    Faculty Specialist – Gerontology – ACNP Nurse Practitioner Education (In association with UNC Charlotte.)

    In addition to teaching in the Nurse Practitioner program in 2022, LB was busy presenting at conferences. Her presentations include:

  13. Amy Winiger, DNP, ACNP-BC, FACC
    Coordinator - Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program (In association with UNC Charlotte.)

    As the North Carolina American College of Cardiology cardiovascular team (CVT) Liaison, Amy was appointed to a three-year team to the CVT Leadership Council. She also applied for a NC Chapter/Section Grant for 2023, “Bridging the Americas to Improve Patient Education Post Myocardial Infarction". This is an extension of her DNP project, teaching post-MI patients self-care. If the grant is received, Amy and her colleague will teach nurses in Chile the content who will in turn teach the patients, as they have no advanced practice provider (APP) programs in their country. 

  14. Lee Braswell, MPH, RT(R)(T), CMD
    Program Chair - Radiation Therapy, Medical Dosimetry, and BSMI Coordinator

    During 2022, Lee created formal advisement process for the BSMI and helped to increase the BSMI enrollment by approximately 50%. He developed the new Medical Dosimetry curriculum and program structure to include accreditation application to the JRCERT. Lee also requested and received approval to increase the 2023 RTT program capacity to 15 students. In collaboration with the RTT program faculty, one additional clinical facility was added to bring the program total to 12 clinical affiliates.

  15. Dina Khentigan, DNP, RN, C-EFM
    Faculty - Associate Degree Nursing 

    Dr. Dina Khentigan received an Innovation Award for certification in Integrative Health and the development of a new course at Carolinas College of Health Sciences.

  16. Melissa D Jackson, M.Ed., MLS(ASCP)cm SBBcm
    Program Chair - Clinical Laboratory Sciences

    Melissa Jackson was a recipient of the Cato Excellence in Healthcare Award for work on her doctorate degree in higher education administration.
