The Medical Assistant program at Cabarrus College prepares students to support medical providers by performing a variety of administrative tasks such as taking medical histories and managing medical records. Medical Assistants are also qualified to perform basic clinical duties such as taking vital signs, starting IVs, and performing venipuncture.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Medical Assistant jobs are expected to have one of the highest rates of growth over the next 10 years.

Our program offers both a Medical Assistant diploma and an Associate of Science in Medical Assistant degree.

Diploma graduates are eligible to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants Certification Examination. In the past three years, 100% of our graduates have passed the certification exam and been qualified for healthcare-related opportunities. Diploma graduates are also eligible to pursue the associate degree that includes studies in behavioral and biological sciences and a medical assistant internship.

A career as a Medical Assistant is an attractive option for someone who is looking for a career change or entering the workforce for the first time.

Medical Assistant Student Organization (MASO)
Getting involved with MASO will support and enhance your academic experience at Cabarrus College. Membership in MASO is open to all medical assisting students. MASO promotes the profession of medical assistant and seeks to continually improve the knowledge and skills of its members.

Club Highlights: MASO holds regularly scheduled monthly meetings during the academic year. The members' biggest focus is fundraising. In the fall semester, fundraising is done to raise money to participate in the College Angel Tree Project and various other benefits to the community. In the spring semester, fundraising is done through multiple efforts such as bake sales, silent auctions, Little Caesar Pizza Kit sales, etc. These fundraising efforts help the MASO members attend the State Medical Assisting Conference held in April each year. At each state conference, the MASO members participate in the College Quiz Bowl. We were champions in 2010. MASO also looks to give back to the community by participating in various volunteer opportunities such as the hospital health fairs, dermatology office skin checks, blood drives, etc.
