Mission Statement

To create and promote a supportive environment of active learning and intellectual curiosity that produces excellent general pediatricians. Our graduates will be prepared to care for children across a variety of settings depending on their individual career goals, but all will provide evidence-based, compassionate care to the children of our community and beyond. We are aligned with the mission of our institution, Atrium Health: to improve health, elevate hope and advance healing – for all. By training excellent general pediatricians, we will improve health, elevate hope and advance healing – for all children and their families.

Aims

We aim to provide a broad, balanced education that produces knowledgeable, holistic professionals with a core general pediatric foundation. Our graduates should be prepared to practice or pursue further education in a variety of situations (ambulatory primary care, inpatient pediatrics or subspecialty training) because they are confident and competent in providing care that meets community and current standards. We aim to train pediatricians who are accountable in ownership of patients, ownership of professional attitudes and behavior and ownership of lifelong learning. They will be advocates for their patients and make a positive impact on their community. They will be well versed in quality improvement and prepared to practice quality care in any setting. We aim to accomplish this all in an environment that retains a collegial, family feel because we value our trainees as future professional colleagues and believe positive relationships between faculty and residents promote a positive learning environment.
