Fellowship Programs at Atrium Health

This fellowship is designed to immerse fellows in a wide range of MIS and bariatric procedures with an emphasis on bariatric surgery. After graduating, fellows will be prepared for credentialing in bariatric surgery and qualify for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship Certification.

Fellows will find a comprehensive multidisciplinary curriculum that centers on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with breast disease. Through extensive training and clinical trials, fellows will become knowledgeable, confident surgeons and leaders in the field of surgical oncology.

Fellows in this program will be immersed in valuable emergency medicine training, working directly with the EMS system and affiliate programs. This program exposes fellows to all prehospital medical components within the community and provides first-class training for residents looking to pursue a career in prehospital medicine.

In this program, fellows will learn how to provide care in response to humanitarian emergencies and international disasters. Fellows will learn about developing emergency medicine systems while serving a broad socioeconomic population.

This fellowship offers a unique learning curriculum to prepare residents for a leadership role in disaster medicine, operational medicine or emergency management. Fellows will also be able to spearhead academic and research opportunities, emerging as field experts. In this program, residents will experience self-directed learning, focused didactics, intense simulation, experiential learning and operational training.

Fellows will have the opportunity to work in an academic and community practice setting to refine their clinical, research, teaching and administrative skills within pediatric emergency medicine. For fellows interested in a career providing emergency care to children, this fellowship offers faculty mentorship, a strong community network of more than 30 regional hospitals, and a breath of clinical experiences.

In this 2-year program, fellows learn all facets of clinical toxicology and graduate ready for successful credentialing by the American Board of Applied Toxicology (ABAT). The curriculum covers care for poising and overdoses, helping fellows recognize, assess and manage poisoned patients.

This fellowship encompasses the full spectrum of medical toxicology, immersing fellows in bedside consultations, outpatient evaluations, clinical research and didactics. In the first year, fellows will focus on clinical experiences, followed by refining their academic skills in year two.

Fellows will gain comprehensive educational training in emergency ultrasonography, learning to apply their knowledge in resuscitative, diagnostic and procedural applications. This fellowship offers meaningful research opportunities, clinical experience and an immersive setting where fellows can refine their teaching skills.

In this fellowship program, fellows will gain comprehensive training in women’s healthcare, including complex and diverse abdominal and vaginal surgeries, urogynecology clinics and clinical research. The program is designed to give physicians a comprehensive education in basic science, clinical knowledge and cognitive and technical skills to provide transformative patient care.

In a thoughtful and scholarly environment, residents will refine their understanding and treatment of basic digestive disorders. This fellowship program prepares residents for several career choices in gastroenterology and hepatology, giving them the option to tailor their training in year three.

This stand-alone 4th year fellowship is available for post-graduates of a three-year accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship. Fellows will have an opportunity to perform new consultations in advanced endoscopy consultation service, gaining experience in an advanced training setting.

This advanced fellowship is a 1 year position designed to provide fellows with a clinical experience in both open and laparoscopic/robotic foregut, abdominal wall reconstruction and solid organ procedures. Fellows will receive comprehensive training in the discipline and the technical aspects of complex gastrointestinal surgery.

This fellowship prepares physicians for a successful career in geriatric medicine, offering opportunities to build clinical skills and knowledge that can be applied in a variety of care settings. Fellows will learn to evaluate and treat older adult patients while also learning about the impacts of health policy and clinical research on geriatric medicine.

Fellows will learn clinical expertise in surgical care, inpatient management and outpatient care of patients with gynecologic malignancies. Additionally, fellows will develop the surgical skills needed to perform both radical and conservative cancer procedures and the clinical skills required to treat patients with gynecologic malignancies.

Fellows will learn the practice of hematology and oncology and the multidisciplinary care and management of related diseases. This fellowship is designed to cultivate the very best physicians in a range of industries, including patient care, education, clinical and translational research.

This fellowship is designed to provide advanced surgical training in the field of hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery for candidates that have completed an accredited residency in General Surgery. The fellowship is intended to provide a comprehensive academic educational program through advanced clinical training, research and conference participation.

The Oral Oncology Fellowship at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center emphasizes it’s training on the clinical management of patients undergoing radiation therapy, chemotherapy and/or head and neck surgery for oncologic disease in both the outpatient Atrium Health Dental Clinic and in the operating room setting at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. The fellow is trained in all phases of hospital oral oncology, from the newly diagnosed individuals as well as the long-term survivors. Additional areas of comprehensive patient care include pediatric cancers, bone marrow and stem cell transplants, hematogenous and solid tumor, and oral and pharyngeal cancers. The fellow is encouraged to participate in on-going Departmental didactics and research. With the experience gained from the fellowship, our graduate will be extremely proficient in managing this group of patients in a multidisciplinary fashion in their future community-based practices.

This program is designed to build leaders in orthopedic trauma clinical care and research. Fellows will gain experience managing patients and operative cases, as well as gain solid foundational knowledge in clinical outcomes and science research.

For fellows looking to pursue a career in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology, this fellowship offers in-depth academic teachings with advanced clinical training, research and conferences. Fellows will follow liver transplant patients, observing their pre and post-transplant care under the mentorship of faculty.

Fellows looking for specialized careers in urologic oncology will find an in-depth curriculum that will expose fellows to the multidisciplinary management of genitourinary malignancies. The educational experience is integrated with mentored career development in health services research, clinical trials, implementation and quality improvement, geriatric oncology and translational research.

In this program, fellows will learn in-depth knowledge of peripheral vascular surgery. Under the leadership of a dedicated full-time surgical team, fellows will get the training and exposure to become confident surgeons.
