Simulated Participants

At Carolinas Simulation Center, Simulated Participants (SPs), also referred to as Standardized Patients, help with the training and evaluation of health care professionals in medicine, nursing and other disciplines. A SP is a person who has been coached to accurately and consistently recreate the history, personality, physical findings and emotional state of an actual patient. They can portray the role of a family member or be used as an anatomy model for ultrasound or physical assessment training. SPs are also used to portray other health care professionals such as a nurse or technician, these SPs are called Embedded Nurses (ENs).
