Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute at CMC-Mercy

Sanger Doctors with PatientOn July 1, 2009, Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) created Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute (Sanger), by combining the Carolinas Heart Institute of Carolinas Medical Center with Charlotte Cardiology Associates and Sanger Clinic. Separately, these organizations are known for pioneering state-of-the-art procedures such as coronary balloon angioplasty, coronary artery bypass grafting and advanced electrophysiology in the Charlotte region since the 1960s.

The integration of these institutions allows the combination of resources to reach a new level of effectiveness in transforming the cardiovascular care at CMC-Mercy and the entire Charlotte region.

Charlotte Cardiology Associates, which has provided cardiovascular care for patients at CMC-Mercy for more than 30 years, is now joined by cardiothoracic surgeons and other key specialists from Sanger Clinic to establish a new level of coordinated cardiovascular care - now known as Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute. Ongoing services include general cardiovascular consultation, acute MI care including percutaneous intervention, on site cardiothoracic surgery (CABG), advanced electrophysiology procedures and endovascular treatment of peripheral vascular disease.

The mission of Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute at CMC-Mercy is to create and operate a comprehensive system to provide healthcare and related services, including education and research opportunities, for the benefit of the people we serve. Our staff strives to embrace the core values of CHS (Caring, Commitment, Integrity and Teamwork) in each personal and professional interaction.

The Sanger team at CMC-Mercy continues to work closely with all CHS hospitals to establish a philosophy of "One program across all locations." We hope to bring the very best cardiovascular care in the region to each patient at every Sanger location. Find out more about Sanger's comprehensive scope of services.
