Cosmetic Services

Cosmetic services and procedures offered at CMC Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery include:

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

An abdominoplasty improves and enhances the abdominal region. During the procedure, your surgeon will remove excess fat and skin and tighten abdomen wall muscles to flatten the stomach area and narrow the waistline. Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic choice to eliminate accumulated excess fat and loose, sagging skin that are unresponsive to diet and exercise. Men and women in relatively good health - especially those women with stretched muscles from multiple pregnancies - are good candidates. Patients planning to lose a lot of weight or become pregnant should postpone the procedure.

Reasons for the procedure:

  • Remove excess or sagging abdominal skin
  • Correct a disproportionately protruding abdomen
  • Strengthen separated or weakened abdominal muscles
  • Remove fatty tissue

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Surgically removes fat and excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids, though not effective for crow's feet, other wrinkles, dark circles or sagging eyebrows.

Reasons for this procedure:

  • Correct drooping upper lids
  • Reduce puffy bags below eyes

These injections can help reduce the appearance of muscle group wrinkles. It will not dramatically alter facial appearance, but relaxes muscles rendering the wrinkles and creases less evident.

Botox may be used once in tandem with surgery, and is also appropriate for certain conditions related to crossed eyes (strabismus), eyelid spasms (blepharospasm) and motor disorders of the VII cranial nerve. It is also used to treat areas at or near the eyelids, forehead and neck.

Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)

This procedure removes loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arms, a common concern with age or extreme weight loss.

Reasons for the procedure:

  • Remove excess skin following major weight loss
  • Create a more youthful appearance in the upper arms

Breast Augmentation

This surgery adds to the fullness of the breast, and may be done in tandem with a mastopexy.

Reason for the procedure:

  • Increased fullness, enhanced shape
  • Added fullness and enhanced shape following changes caused by weight loss and/or pregnancy

Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)

Surgical procedure to eliminate excess tissue and tighten forehead skin for improved and minimized forehead creases, drooping eyebrows, hooding over eyes, furrowed forehead and frown lines.

Reason for this procedure:

  • Minimize forehead creases

Restylane injections restore volume and fullness to correct moderate to severe wrinkles around the nose or mouth, between the eyebrows and may also enhance lip fullness.

This procedure involves surgically vacuuming fat from beneath the skin's surface. It is a good method for correcting body contour problems and irregularities, but it is ineffective for weight loss.

Reason for this procedure:

This procedure is generally a cosmetic decision to correct body-contouring irregularities of the body and face, enhance appearance and boost self-esteem. It is especially well-suited for adults with isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas-thighs, hips, abdomen, buttocks, knees, ankles, calves arms or face-to appear out of proportion. These localized fat deposits are sometimes inherited traits unresponsive to diet and exercise. Liposuction is often the only means to eliminate them.

Liposuction is a serious surgical procedure-not a "quick fix." It cannot cure cellulite, and isn't appropriate for obese persons. It should never be considered a substitute for good eating and exercise habits. Persons considering this procedure should have good skin elasticity, be near ideal body weight and have realistic expectations. Your doctor may be unable to completely remove the fat from any specific area-improving your problem spots is the goal.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

This procedure is designed to lift and rejuvenate breast appearance. This cosmetic surgery improves the relationship between the nipples and underlying breast tissue.

Reason for this procedure:

  • Improve breast shape

Before the procedure:

Your doctor will examine you, including a careful physical examination of your breasts, chest, sternum and axillary (armpit) region. You may be asked to undergo a mammogram, and your doctor will review your medical and breast history and your goals and expectations. Your doctor will also make "before" pictures.

As the problem of obesity increases in the general population, there are more and more individuals with exceptionally large hernias and extensive over-hanging skin. The removal of excess skin is essential to decreasing the incidence of recurrent hernias. In such cases, a combined approach with plastic surgery is performed in order to excise these large aprons of skin. Muscle flaps are also occasionally used in reconstructing the abdominal wall. Dr. Stanley Getz and the Carolinas Hernia Institute surgeons work closely together as a team to ensure the best possible results.

The consult:

The patient is first seen by the general surgeons and Dr. Getz to plan the operation. The surgeons discuss the case and plan of action. Postoperatively, the patient will be seen by members of the general surgery and Dr. Getz.

The procedure:

During the operation, Carolinas Hernia Center surgeons will plan the incisions to be used to repair the hernia and excise the excessive skin. The procedure is then carried out in a staged fashion in one setting.

Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)

This surgery may be a cosmetic or necessary choice to enhance the nose. Your doctor can help you in determining if you are a good candidate.

Reason for this procedure:

  • Change or improve appearance
  • Open blocked nasal passages
  • Correct an injury or birth deformity

Rhytidectomy (Face Lift)

This procedure is based on a cosmetic choice to improve facial appearance and eliminate excess fat and loose, sagging skin from the neck and face brought on by aging, sun exposure and stress.

Reason for this procedure:

A rhytidectomy is performed on adults with good bone structure to remove excess fat, tighten underlying face and neck muscles and redrape skin in those areas. The surgery usually takes three to four hours and is done in an outpatient setting.
