To be considered for bariatric surgery, you need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • You are between the ages of 18 and 70 years of age (in most cases)
  • You have a body mass index (BMI) of over 35
  • You are currently experiencing severe negative health effects (such as high blood pressure or diabetes) related to being severely overweight
  • You are unable to achieve a healthy body weight, even through medically-supervised dieting
  • You are highly-motivated to make an important lifestyle change
