Since the start of our liver transplant program in 1994, more than 600 liver transplants have been performed at Carolinas Medical Center. Our experienced transplant surgeons bring more than 40 years of combined experience and have cumulatively performed more than 1500 liver transplants throughout their careers including deceased donor, pediatric, split liver and donation after cardiac death liver transplants.
The Liver Transplant Program at Carolinas Medical Center also has some of the shortest wait times in North Carolina and the Southeast according to the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.
In addition, Lifeshare of the Carolinas, the organ procurement organization associated with our program, has received national recognition from the Organization for Transplant Professionals (NATCO) for its increased lung recoveries and has been presented NATCO's "Quality of Care" award.
CMC's transplant program is also associated with Levine Children's Hospital.
