Tala Smith completed her undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where she received her B.S. in Biology and Chemistry. She was a recipient of the NC Health Science and Math Scholarship.
Tala enrolled in the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2008. During medical school, she served as treasurer for the American Medical Student Association. She was also the secretary and treasurer of the Association of Native American Medical Students, and was a member of the leadership council of the Christian Medical and Dental Association. Tala received her doctorate of medicine, in 2012, from Brody School of Medicine.
Her hobbies include: gardening, cooking, spending time with family, jogging, crocheting, and reading.
