Carolinas HealthCare System’s Start It, Stanly Series provides opportunities throughout the year for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to meet their physical activity goals. Participants earn points based on individual performances, as well as for participating in any of the six Start It, Stanly races.
Be sure to join us for as many races as possible as you continue your journey to better health.
Click here to register for the entire series at once and receive a Start It, Stanly Shirt. Drop off locations are listed on the form. You can only register for the entire series before the race begins on March 12.
Start It, Stanly Race Series is not a competition, but we do give you the ability to see where you stand in the series. Standings will be updated after each race. Please contact us with any corrections or call 980-323-4196.
We try and combine all your times for multiple races (under your name) but we may miss some. The scoring is simple. The age groups for the Start It, Stanly series are 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 plus. You will earn age group points for each race in which you participate.
Everyone receives 30 points for participating
You are competing for age group points/awards but it gets even better. The overall points are awarded the same as the age group points 50 points for 1st overall, 45 points for 2nd overall, etc. Note, your OVERALL POINTS and your AGE GROUP POINTS will not be the same. You are accumulating OVERALL POINTS based on your overall finish position. You are accumulating AGE GROUP POINTS based on your age group finish position. At the end of the series, if you have won an overall award you are no longer eligible to win in your age group.
In the case of a tie, the highest average points per-event will be used to break the tie. For example, if one runner has 80 points and has participated in 4 races (20 points per race average) and another runner has 100 points but has participated in 7 races (14 points per race average) the runner with the highest average will be declared the winner. If two runners have the same number of points and the same average, a head-to-head tie breaker will be used to declare the winner (whoever won the most head-to-head races). If each runner is still tied, then the LAST race in the year in which BOTH runners participated will be used to decide the head-to-head tie breaker. For example, if both runners participate in The HealthWave, the runner winning the head-to-head competition will be declared the winner. If two runners are tied and did not compete head to head against each other, then the runner who finished the latest race in the calendar will be the winner.
The best part is getting free stuff – and we have plenty. The top 3 in their age groups will get some great awards. As this is different from previous years, we are still working to determine the best prizes for you as participants. Stay tuned!
