Patients with complex gynecologic problems deserve the best diagnostic and therapeutic care available. That care is available at
the Center for Gynecology, which specializes in gynecologic surgery and urogynecology.
Oncology
Gynecologic oncology services are provided by physicians in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology who
work on-site in Carolinas Medical Center's Blumenthal Cancer Center.
Following evaluation and diagnosis, a
patient may undergo surgery for her pelvic malignancy or receive chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
In addition, the following services are available:
Surgery for pelvic malignancies
Radiation therapy
Specialized laboratory studies
Nutritional counseling
Chemotherapy
Psychological counseling
Pain management
Chaplain services
Urogynecology
Because hormone levels and muscle tone change with age, stress incontinence (leakage of urine while coughing,
laughing or during exercise or lifting) can become a problem for women in middle age. The center's physicians
use urogynecologic tests to pinpoint the cause of the problem and develop solutions, most frequently
nonsurgical.
Other specialty services:
Gynecologic sonography, including two-dimensional real-time ultrasonography of pelvic masses, Doppler
ultrasonography of pelvic masses and hysterosonography
Pelvic reconstructive surgery
Invasive Procedures, including ovarian cyst aspiration and laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy
