TREATMENT OF PROSTATE CANCER
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in American men, and the third most common cause of cancer deaths among men. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 234,460 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in the United States during 2006. In fact, one in six men will eventually develop prostate cancer. However, men whose prostate cancer is detected early have a nearly 100 percent five-year survival rate.
Patients diagnosed with prostate cancer may be treated by one or a combination of four major treatment approaches:
Treatment selection is based on patient choice, the man's overall health, and the degree of disease development.
