Wheelchair Seating And Positioning Clinic

WHEELCHAIR SEATING AND POSITIONING CLINIC

The Wheelchair Seating and Positioning Clinic at Carolinas Rehabilitation meets the growing needs of both inpatient and outpatient populations. Through a detailed evaluation, the team assists the client in selection of a wheelchair system that best meets his/her needs. Case management is provided to work with vendor and payer source personnel. A follow-up fitting assessment ensures the order is filled correctly, and the client is satisfied with the equipment provided.

Specialized services at the Wheelchair Seating and Positioning Clinic include:

  • ROM/flexibility evaluation
  • Power/manual wheelchair knowledge
  • Extensive patient/family education
  • Pressure mapping
  • Referral to other services - physicians, therapies, driver's evaluation and vehicle modification, vocational rehabilitation, independent living, and Programs for Accessible Living (PAL)
  • Postural evaluation
  • Biomechanical application
  • Promotes functional independence
  • Physician clinic accessibility

Services provided by the Wheelchair Seating and Positioning Clinic are available to any client in need of custom seating. This includes power/manual wheelchairs and custom backrests/seat cushions, as well as addressing accessibility with transportation and home issues.

Note: The Seating and Positioning Clinic accepts referral from a variety of sources, including physicians, therapists, social workers, patients, case managers, insurance companies, vocational rehabilitation counselors and independent living counselors. A physician's order for seating assessment and medical history is required to initiate services.
