VESTIBULAR AND BALANCE REHABILITATION PROGRAM
The Balance and Vestibular Rehabilitation Program at Carolinas Rehabilitation is an outpatient program designed
to decrease symptoms of vertigo or other forms of dizziness, improve balance, and enhance visual following and gaze stability.
Treatment is offered for a wide variety of conditions that result in dizziness and imbalance including, but not limited to:
- BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo)
- Peripheral vestibular dysfunction (labyrinthitis, acoustic neuroma resection)
- Central vestibular dysfunction resulting from some form of injury to the brain
- Post-concussive syndrome
- Other neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease
- History of falls or near falls
Patients are evaluated by physical therapist who are certified in vestibular rehabilitation. A specific treatment plan is designed
which may include:
- Canalith Repositioning Treatment (for BPPV)
- Instruction in balance and vestibular adaptation exercises
- Evaluation and training on Neurocom balance system
- Instruction in compensatory and avoidance strategies
- Recommendation of adaptive equipment
