SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY
Speech and Language Pathology Services at Carolinas Rehabilitation are offered on an inpatient or outpatient basis.
Therapists are licensed and certified by national and state organizations to provide rehabilitation
services to pediatric, adult, and older adult populations. Emphasis of treatment is on the establishment
of functional communication, cognition and swallowing abilities.
Speech Therapy Services may be beneficial for people who experience or who have experienced any of the following:
- Stroke (CVA)
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
- Post Concussive Syndrome
- Neurological Disorders (Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, etc)
- Laryngectomy
- Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia)
- Feeding Disorders (Pediatric)
- Developmental Delay
- Birth Defects
- Craniofacial-Oral Facial Disorders
- Voice Disorders
Specialized programs requiring additional training or certification:
- VitalStimTM (electrical stimulation for swallowing)
- Lee Silverman Voice Therapy ® (LSVT®)
- Speech Easy ® (evaluation for fluency device)
- Accent Reduction Therapy
Examples of Speech Therapy Services include aphasia treatment, therapy for motor speech disorders such
as apraxia and dysarthria, cognitive retraining, pediatric feeding therapy and treatment targeting
augmentative communication.
