PROJECT STAR
Services for Individuals with Traumatic Brain Injuries
Brain injury is one of the leading causes of death and disability among young people in the state of North Carolina. More people sustain a brain injury each
year than are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, HIV/AIDS and breast cancer combined. Yet, brain injury remains one of the most misunderstood disabilities.
Program Description
Project STAR is a program of Carolinas Rehabilitation that serves individuals of all ages with traumatic brain injuries, their families
and their community supports. Program areas include education and referral, advocacy and direct service through community collaborations.
Features
- We educate about the potential long-term cognitive, behavioral and social difficulties encountered following TBI
- We provide referral and linkage to existing resources for individuals and families in their communities
- We offer support by locating community agencies to assist people during crisis situations
- We advocate on behalf of TBI survivors for services and support in their communities
- We assist agencies and organizations that are interested in providing community opportunities for TBI survivors with program development and implementation
- We actively participate on committees at the local and state level that seek to improve opportunities for those with TBI

- The Family and Community Support Office of the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina (BIANC)

- Work Adjustment Program
