CAROLINAS DRIVING SCHOOL FOR THE DISABLED
The staff at Carolinas Rehabilitation has many years of experience evaluating and developing
compensations for a variety of physical, cognitive and emotional limitations. Carolinas Driving School for the
Disabled provides a continuum of services from classroom training to on-the-road evaluation and training, as
well as access to the latest adaptive high-tech driving systems, which includes the modified van and sedan.
The school provides specialized services including:
- Clinical evaluation
- In-vehicle evaluation
- Driver simulation
- On-the-road evaluation and training
- Equipment prescriptions
- Equipment education and training
- Vehicle fittings and inspections
- Classroom instructions that meet NC state requirements
School participants must be persons:
- Who have a physical or neurological impairment
- Who have a valid driver's license or are eligible for one
- Who are 18 years or older or 15 to 17 years old with parental consent
Referrals for this program are accepted from physicians, Department of Motor Vehicles or by self-referral. A physician release is required to sign up for the program, along with a copy of the participant's recent medical history. All medical histories must include current medications and seizure history.
