CAROLINAS DRIVING SCHOOL FOR THE DISABLED

The staff at Carolinas Rehabilitation has many years of experience evaluating and developing compensations for a variety of physical, cognitive and emotional limitations. Carolinas Driving School for the Disabled provides a continuum of services from classroom training to on-the-road evaluation and training, as well as access to the latest adaptive high-tech driving systems, which includes the modified van and sedan.

The school provides specialized services including:

• Clinical evaluation
• In-vehicle evaluation
• Driver simulation
• On-the-road evaluation and training
• Equipment prescriptions
• Equipment education and training
• Vehicle fittings and inspections
• Classroom instructions that meet NC state requirements

School participants must be persons:

• Who have a physical or neurological impairment
• Who have a valid driver's license or are eligible for one
• Who are 18 years or older or 15 to 17 years old with parental consent

Referrals for this program are accepted from physicians, Department of Motor Vehicles or by self-referral. A physician release is required to sign up for the program, along with a copy of the participant's recent medical history. All medical histories must include current medications and seizure history.
