AMPUTEE AND PROSTHETIC SERVICES

Carolinas Rehabilitation provides comprehensive outpatient services to persons of all ages who have undergone an upper or lower extremity amputation.

Prosthetic and related therapy services include:

  • Desensitization/pain management and education (neuromas, phantom pain)
  • Edema control
  • Pre-operative evaluation and education
  • Pre-prosthetic education by a physician, physical therapist, prosthetist and nurse
  • Medical and functional evaluation with a prosthetic recommendation by a staff physiatrist specializing in prosthetics
  • Prosthetic education/management
  • Prosthetic fabrication and fit evaluation
  • Skin care
  • Wound care
  • Cardiovascular conditioning
  • Therapeutic exercise
  • Sports/leisure
Carolinas Rehabilitation also offers follow-up services such as:

Satellite clinics are offered in the North Carolina cities of Monroe, Gastonia, Concord and Shelby. Carolinas Rehabilitation accepts referrals for amputee and prosthetic services from patients, physicians, therapists, community agencies, hospital discharge planners, insurance companies and other healthcare professionals.

Amputee Support Group
The Amputee Support Group is an active group of individuals with amputation, as well as their family members and/or friends. The group meets at Carolinas Rehabilitation or various locations in the community on the third Thursday of each month. For more information, call 704-355-4300 or 800-634-2256.
