HISTORY
In May 1986, MedCenter Air had its beginning with one single engine Bell 206 Longranger helicopter,
eight medical crew members, three pilots and one mechanic. The helicopter was based on the front lawn of Carolina’s
Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center.
Our first trauma patient was a prominent NASCAR driver after his accident at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Due to continued growth, in
1987 a Beechcraft Super King Air 200 was added to the fleet, and in 1991 our first critical care ground unit was purchased.
Today, MedCenter Air’s fleet consists of two Bell 230 helicopters, three Beechcraft Super King Air 200 twin turboprop airplanes, one Cessna
Citation V jet airplane and eight critical care ground units.
Our transport volume has grown from an average of 30 per month our first year to our current average of
almost 600
transports per month.
The crew at MedCenter Air has grown as well. Currently, there are
25 pilots, 65 medical crew, three mechanics and 10 dispatchers. MedCenter Air’s transport range has grown
from local to international, having transported to every continent across the globe. Political
dignitaries, celebrities and professional athletes have all trusted the team at MedCenter Air for their
medical transport needs.
