CARDIAC REHABILITATION
All cardiac rehabilitation programs within Carolinas HealthCare System focus on returning patients
to as healthy a lifestyle as possible and reducing their cardiovascular risk factors. Program
staffs often include an exercise physiologist, a registered nurse, a registered dietitian, a
clinical psychologist and a medical director.
Most programs serve patients who have suffered a heart attack, had bypass or balloon surgery,
had a pacemaker implant, or had valves replaced. Participants with congestive heart failure,
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or a heart transplant, diabetes, hypertension, stress,
high cholesterol, smoking or a combination of these factors may also benefit from the program.
