RESEARCH AND ADVANCED TREATMENT

The Neuroscience and Spine Institute at Carolinas Medical Center and the physicians associated with the Institute are committed to continuing the search for more effective treatments of brain tumors. In fact, the lead site for a national study to examine the safety of combining multiple state-of-the-art therapies to achieve the best results possible in the treatment of primary brain cancer--GLIADEL Wafer--is in Charlotte.

GLIADEL Wafer is a treatment for newly diagnosed patients with high-grade malignant glioma, a specific type of brain tumor. The study is a phase II clinical trial designed to enroll 40 patients and will address the safety and feasibility of using this therapy on a larger scale.
