Vascular Surgery and Medicine

Specialized Vascular Care

Carolinas HealthCare System has an expert team of vascular medicine physicians and surgeons who focus solely on diseases that affect the arteries that carry blood to the body and back to the heart. Our goal is to provide patients convenient and comprehensive evaluation, treatment and prevention.

Vascular Screening Program

Vascular disease often goes unnoticed until it causes a serious medical emergency. The good news is that screening is simple and non-invasive. By scheduling a $78 vascular screening with Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, you can help determine your level of risk for vascular disease. Call 704-373-0212 for more information.

Innovative Aneurysm Treatment

Abdominal aortic aneurysm is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the large blood vessel that supplies blood to the abdomen, pelvis and legs becomes abnormally large or balloons outward. When the aneurysm bursts, it is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate treatment from medical personnel. Learn About Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screenings.

Physicians and medical staff at Carolinas HealthCare System, providing vascular medicine and vascular surgery care, have recently initiated a protocol called "Code Rupture" to expedite the care of patients with a high probability of a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.

The protocol connects referring physicians, MedCenter Air and EMS services, emergency medicine physicians and vascular surgeons from Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute so the patient can be treated as quickly and effectively as possible. Carolinas Medical Center is one of only two centers in North Carolina with an expedited treatment protocol for ruptured abdominal aneurysms.
