Marjan Mohseni has been working in the field of viral hepatitis for seven years. She joined in the Liver Group of the Research Center for Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases in Tehran, Iran, in 2002 working under the supervision of Professor Mohammad R. Zali. While in this lab, she worked on the molecular epidemiology of viral hepatitis.

Her collaboration with the Swedish Institute for Infectious Diseases Control led Marjan to carry on her research under the supervision of Professor Lars Magnius in late 2003. Marjan examined the molecular epidemiology of hepatitis B and assisted in the identification of a novel core promoter mutation in HBV isolates of Hepatitis B patients that was published in journal of General Virology. Marjan also worked on the molecular epidemiology of viral hepatitis A, C, and E while in Sweden as well as the complete genome sequencing of Enterovirus strains in a European multi-country project called Vizier.

Marjan's master thesis project involved the epigenetic reprogramming of host by CMV. She assisted in a collaborative project under supervision of Professor Tomas Ekstrom to identify DNMT1 translocation out of the cell by CMV transfection.

Since 2008, Marjan joined Liver, Digestive and Metabolic Disorders Laboratory when she explored the effects of a natural compound from Milk Thistle, Legalon-Sil on HCV replication under the guidance of Dr. Herbert Bonkovsky. Currently, Marjan is working in Liver Pathobiology Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Laura Schrum, PhD, on identifying effects of Legalon-Sil on HCV entry into hepatocytes.
