Patient & Visitor Alert: Because flu cases are on the rise, starting February 24, children 12 and younger will be restricted from visiting hospitals and certain inpatient facilities throughout Carolinas HealthCare System.
The staff of experts at Carolinas Rehabilitation provides expert respiratory rehabilitation care, including helping patients on ventilators breathe on their own.
Patients admitted to Carolinas Rehabilitation ventilator rehabilitation program:
Must meet general rehab admission criteria
Are medically stable and do not require extensive monitoring
Are in the process of being weaned from mechanical ventilation (oxygen less than 50 percent, respiratory rate less than eight)
Usually have a neuromuscular disorder
However, if a patient is ventilator-dependent, a stable discharge disposition must be arranged prior to admission.
The respiratory care department provides a complete scope of services including:
Oxygen therapy (including trach care)
Chest wall manipulation
Arterial blood gases
The department is also part of the Rapid Response and Code Teams.
Program quality is our goal. Carolinas Rehabilitation's respiratory care department is proud to:
Have team members certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Offer 24/7 coverage
Feature a low staff-to-patient ratio for more personalized care and attention
