Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry has recently started an exciting new fellowship for primary care physicians. The fellowship is a one-year program open to physicians who have completed residency training in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine. The purpose of the fellowship is to develop expertise in the area of primary care psychiatry. The fellow will work closely with the Psychiatry faculty at Carolinas HealthCare System. This is an extensive hospital group that provides psychiatric care for Charlotte and surrounding areas in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

The fellow will rotate through the Liaison and Consult (inpatient) service, the child and adolescent service, the outpatient medication clinics and psychotherapy. The fellow will be responsible for providing primary care services to patients in our psychiatry clinic three half-days a week. We have an integrated primary care and psychiatry clinic where the fellow works alongside psychiatrists within the same clinic to provide optimal care. The fellow will have opportunities to develop lecture, teaching and publication skills.
