James A. Furse, Jr., MD
For nearly four decades, James A. Furse, MD, has provided high quality, personalized care to patients at Barnett Family Practice in Indian Land and Lancaster. Dr. Furse began working at the practice in 1976 as one of the three founding physicians of the practice. After dedicating much of his adult life to practicing family medicine, Dr. Furse retired at the end of August, leaving behind 969 satisfied patients.
“Dr. Furse has brought a depth of knowledge and skill to Barnett Family Practice over the years,” said Bari Caplan-Bolger, assistant vice president, medical group. “Though we will miss Dr. Furse, we congratulate him on a tremendous medical career and thank him for his continued dedication to this community.”
Dr. Furse and two of his colleagues from medical school, 38 years ago, decided to start a practice with the goal of bringing high-quality medicine to a small South Carolina town. Barnett Family Practice was named in honor of Lewis Barnett, who taught the founders in their residency at Medical University of South Carolina.
“Our long-term goal has always been to bring medical excellence to a relatively underserved area,” said Dr. Furse.
Barnett Family Practice joined Carolinas HealthCare System in 1995.
