Issue 3 – March 2014
In our last issue, I wrote about how our physicians and care teams have not let the accelerated pace of change in our industry hinder their commitment to our patients. In this issue, you will again read multiple examples of how your peers are leveraging their intellectual assets and compassion on behalf of our patients. Thank you for taking the time to read about your colleagues, as well as other System updates outlined in our quarterly publication created specifically for Carolinas HealthCare System clinicians and partners.
In a post-Affordable Care Act environment, we continue to provide care day-to-day while simultaneously re-designing our traditional patient care models. In some cases, we only have months to re-design care models that have evolved over a period of decades.
With so many transformative initiatives underway, I would like to provide insight about how our mission is evolving. As an organization, population health management is now an essential part of our mission, and is fundamental to our strategy for adapting successfully to the healthcare reform environment.
You as providers quite clearly know what it is like to manage the health of all the many patients you see daily. In fact, our System-wide total of patient encounters grew in 2013, exceeding 11.2 million. Read the entire message from Roger Ray, MD.
