Carolinas HealthCare System

The foundation for data and analytics implementation at Carolinas HealthCare System is based upon an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) that uses the IBM Healthcare Provider Data Model (Version 8.7).  The EDW is populated daily with data from electronic medical records (EMR) used for the ambulatory practices, emergency departments, and hospitals within the System (Cerner PowerChart).  In addition, the EDW is designed to collect financial data, patient and employee satisfaction data, as well as a host of additional data elements.

Additional tools are used for analytics including Business Objections, SAS, Predixion, Humedica, Johns Hopkins ACG tool, and Verisk.  These tools and others allow the analytics team to create internal risk models, examine and benchmark ambulatory quality data, and analyze payer data to better understand total cost of care and medication adherence.

Our team also has expertise in using Geographical Information Systems (GIS).  Geospatial modeling reveals patterns of healthcare access, utilization, disease prevalence and social determinants of health. We developed a geospatial modeling process called the Multi-Attribute Primary Care Targeting Strategy (MAPCATS) that identifies and tracks high-risk populations.

DFM Research partners closely with Carolinas HealthCare System's Dickson Advanced Analytics Groups.
