Colorectal cancer starts in the colon or the rectum. Depending on where the cancer starts, it can be referred to separately as colon cancer or rectal cancer.

When colon and rectal cancers are found early, there is almost a 90 percent chance for cure. Early detection is the key to the best patient outcomes.

Several tests are available to screen for or diagnose colorectal cancer, and may be used together. These include:

  • Double contrast barium enema (DCBE)
  • Fecal occult blood test (FOBT)
  • Fecal immunochemical test (FIT)

Colorectal Cancer Treatment

Levine Cancer Institute’s physicians have years of experience and expertise in developing effective treatment for colorectal cancer. Surgery is the most common form of treatment, and our highly trained cancer surgeons decide on an appropriate method of surgery based on the tumor’s stage and location, as well as your condition and wishes. Surgery may be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
