Children's Services

Finding out your unborn baby has a heart condition can be a scary time – but we’re here to help. At Levine Children’s Hospital’s Fetal Heart Clinic, our team uses the latest technology to diagnose congenital heart disease as early as 12 weeks into pregnancy. This early diagnosis gives you more time to discuss your options and leads to better results.

Whether you received an abnormal ultrasound, have a family history of congenital heart disease or have a chronic condition like lupus, diabetes or arthritis, our expert teams work together to evaluate your child's risk for a heart condition – and work with you to determine the best way to care for your baby.

Fetal Heart Conditions We Diagnose

Using a non-invasive procedure called a fetal echocardiogram, our specialists can diagnose a variety of heart conditions, including:

  • Aortic valve stenosis (a stiffening and narrowing of the aortic valve that makes the heart pump harder)
  • Ebstein's anomaly
  • Ventricular septal defect (a hole in wall between the heart's right and left ventricles)
  • Tetralogy of Fallot
  • Hypoplastic left heart syndrome

Once a diagnosis is made, our fetal heart doctors and team will work with other specialists, including your obstetrician, neonatologists and pediatric cardiac surgeons to determine the best way to safely and effectively care for you and your baby.
