Deciding to receive a transplant is a difficult decision and one that requires a strong commitment by the patient and their family members. Patients are required to schedule Evaluation Teaching visits with the Transplant Center. These visits include meetings with a certified transplant coordinator, a social worker, a registered dietitian and a transplant financial counselor.
Each of these professionals will discuss Transplant Center Requirements which include:
- A commitment to remain drug, alcohol and nicotine free. Random screenings may be done by the transplant team pre- and post-op.
- Completion of medical tests to determine if you would be a good candidate for surgery/transplantation.
Your commitment to abstain from all substances including drugs, alcohol and tobacco is key to your success and is required to be considered for a transplant.
