At Carolinas HealthCare System, we strive to meet the many needs of our patients and families. This includes providing healthcare in ways that are culturally sensitive, effective and easy to understand.
One important service to help with this goal is offered through our Language Services team, which helps bridge communication gaps between patients and providers, and reduces barriers to access quality healthcare.
Our 75 professional medical interpreters are culturally competent, have a vast knowledge of medical terminology, and interact with patients and medical professionals on a daily basis.
All of Carolinas HealthCare System’s care locations are equipped to provide in-person or over-the-phone interpreting services to patients and families in need, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Our in-house interpreters speak mostly Spanish, but our phone feature offers interpretation services in more than 200 languages. We can also provide American Sign Language (ASL) to our deaf and hard-of-hearing patients.
Patients and families in need of language assistance should ask their care providers for an interpreter when they schedule their medical visit.
