DIVERSITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

A Message From Our President:
"Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) takes great pride in its diverse work force. CHS promotes an environment wherein differences are valued and integrated into our organization's operations. Diversity awareness is a business imperative that is important to our organization and to the community we serve. Diversity encompasses all the ways in which human beings are both similar and different. CHS has achieved success by creating a high-performance organization, leveraging the capacity and diversity of our total work force."

-Michael Tarwater, President and CEO,
Carolinas HealthCare System

The Diversity Advisory Committee (DAC) of Carolinas HealthCare System began in 1998 to assist in recruiting minority physicians and to address concerns regarding diversity. Year 2000 census data showed that Charlotte-Mecklenburg has a minority population of 34.4 percent and the dominant minority group, at 27.9 percent is African American. The DAC will address concerns regarding diversity in the order each/any minority group is represented in the communities Carolinas HealthCare System serves. Issues must have comprehensive impact and broad consequences for minority physicians at Carolinas HealthCare System, to merit input by the DAC.
